Why flowers bloom at night are mostly white in colour?
White flowers and plants with variegated foliage glow softly as they reflect the moonlight.

The bright blooms of some plants and heavenly scent of some flowers attract nectar-feeding moths and bats. These pollinators work only after dark. Other bats are drawn to the night-blooming garden to prey on insects.

With limited eyesight, many species of insect will respond to scents over a much larger area than they do to visual colour.
Reply:It is an arrangement made by nature. For reproduction of that particular plant. The reproduction is mainly depending on the insects which are sitting on them for nectar. But in night the insects cannot see that much easily. So the nature made this beautiful arrangement, to show the flowers bright, the flowers are white in colour.
Reply:Night flowers in the US are usually pollinated by moths which find them by smell. They are usualy very fragrant.

Most bats in the US eat insects, so that would not be a factor but in the tropics there are many bats that visit flowers.
Reply:Insects can not see the colours at night but they are attracted by smell.
Reply:Bats are also important pollinators of flowers. Bats have poor vision and use sonar, scent, etc. to find food.
