What are those flowers in Central Park that smell amazing???

We went to central park this weekend. As we passed "Balto" the dog statue, the fragrance of flowers was beautiful. There was a huge shrub with white dangling flowers nearby. Not sure if it was that... Anyone know what kind of plant/flower it was? I would love to duplicate that in my garden.

What are those flowers in Central Park that smell amazing???
Maybe lilac, I'm not really sure. Lilac is in bloom now, so it's possible, and they grow there.

Reply:I don't remember seeing purple flowers, but it must be lilac. This description fits exactly where we were walking. Report It
Reply:Did the flowers look like trumpets? If so, it could have been brugmansia, aka Angels Trumpets. They have a wonderful fragrance and come in a variety of colors. They are a tropical plant, tho, so they either have to be brought inside during the winter, or they will die to the ground and usually grow back again the next spring. They get really big in one year, often over eight feet tall.
Reply:I have no idea what's in Central Park but the Autumn Olives are in bloom here in Indiana and they smell wonderful! The description could match them.
