I have 2 plants, I'm not even sure they are Calla Lilies. They have huge leaves, and big white flowers with a long orange yellow center. The leaves are turning brown now, and the blooms are gone. Am I supposed to cut them back?
Anyone know how to care for Calla Lilies?
We have the white Calla Lillies. Once the flower has died off cut the flower stem right down . Keep the yellow seed part ( inside lillie), wear protective gloves and spread the yellow seeds around your garden they keep the cats away. Once they have all flowered and died off, cut everything right down to the ground.Leaves etc.
Reply:cut the old flowers off. Seeds develop in the old flower. You may want to let it do that just to see how it works. Its pretty neat.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calla_lily.
Is this what they look like? Make sure they have lots of water and sun. Mine have the spotted leaves. I just love that!
I had them for 2 years and I just loved those pretty spotted leaves. It did bloom twice this year in its new spot.
They have bulbs and in there is plenty of energy. If the whole plants looks like its in trouble, I would cut it all back and let it regrow.
You will have to dig up the bulbs in the fall if you live in a wintry area like New England and store it in your cool basement with your other semitropical bulbs.
Some callas can stand the winter I am told, but I don't take the chance with mine.
I wonder though are you talking about Cannas? I don't remember any of them coming in White. Just red and yellow and orange.
I love them too. I got lots. Just Wikipedia them and you will know how to take care of them. Basically the same as Callas. They love water and sun. The more, the better. Callas are one plant that would thrive on overwaterings.
Reply:They must be kept very moist at all times!
2. You can let them grow outdoors, in spring and summer, but they must be kept wet!
3. Bring them indoors in fall and winter!
Good luck!

Reply:Most orchids bloom only one time a year ~ they are usually not dead after they bloom ~ just napping. Indeed there are very few indoor plants (or outdoors for that matter) that will stay in bloom for more than a few months out of the year.
Anthuriums can grow quite well indoors and will continue to bloom if given a bit of monthly fertilizer. Spathyphyllums (peace lillies) are also wonderful indoor plants with lovely white flowers and they require very little bright light.
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana is a wonderful bloomer ~ flowers last 2-3 months and then they should be cutback given a bit of a resting period ~ they start forming blooms again in about a month. They do need some sunshine though.
Most flowering plants really do much better outdoors. Having good air circulation ~ an open window nearby can make a very big difference. If your doors %26amp; windows are locked %26amp; closed up most of the time ~ you will probably have difficulty getting any houseplants to bloom.

What is this hosta looking plant?
I love the flower on this plant and am trying to figure out what it is. I thought it was a hosta as the leaves look identical. But I don't believe that is what it is. The flowers spike out like a hosta but have a much thicker stem. The one I have has a white flower and is extremely fragrant. They have an oblong flower when closed that opens up to a funnel shaped flower. My hostas finished flowering many weeks ago here in Connecticut and these plants have just flowered now. I'd love to get more of these but don't know what they are! Any ideas?

sounds like peace lily but I think they're just houseplants except for tropical regions....

Is it wrong to wear a white sundress (with pink accents) to a wedding shower?
Hi, I'm going to a wedding shower held at the bride's house and I have a white strapless sundress with pink embroidered flowers and a pink sash/tie. Is in inapropriate to wear a mostly white dress to the shower? or does this only apply to the wedding? The invitation didn't mention anything about attire.
Is it wrong to wear a white sundress (with pink accents) to a wedding shower?
No its not wrong. It sounds adorable!
Reply:That sounds cute, no its that you aren't suppose to wear a white dress to the wedding
Reply:It sounds like it would be okay. Don't sweat it.
Reply:It sounds cute, but I don't think I'd wear to the shower.Try a yellow tank top and shorts, unless its too cold, try jeans and a lavender shirt that has long sleeves.
Reply:It only applies to the wedding.
Reply:Sounds OK as long as it's not a white gown and the wedding sounds pretty casual.
Reply:No. You just can't wear it to the wedding.
Reply:No. but the outfit descibes what you'd wear to an outdoor party.
Reply:A shower doesn't follow the same etiquette as a wedding. It sounds like a perfectly appropriate outfit for a shower, assuming it's a warm day. Just don't wear it to the wedding. ;)
Reply:its ok just dont wear black underware
Reply:that sounds cute...dont worry about the white. im sure no one will think its a big deal!
Reply:It only applies to the wedding itself.

Why are my red crape myrtles blooming white?
These are "Dynamite" crape myrtles that have bloomed a beautiful red the past 2 years. This year they're blooming white. What nutrient is missing or is it just the heat?
I live in Texas and we've had 5 straight days of 100 degree heat with no end in sight and of course we're in a drought. I've watered them and my roses (instead of the lawn);I don't care about grass but I really don't want to lose my flowers. HELP!
Why are my red crape myrtles blooming white?
Crape myrtles thrive in intense summer sun and are extremely tolerant of very dry conditions, but cannot survive winter temperatures much farther north than Arkansas. Like most summer blooming shrubs, produce their flowers on new growth. So, if pruning is to be done, it should be completed in the early spring before new growth begins.
http://www.cherylsgardenparty.com/2005/B...
Crape myrtles do not require much fertilizer. They are also adaptable to a fairly wide soil pH range, from 5.0 to 6.5. A soil test provides the best standard for determining the amount of fertilizer that is needed and whether the pH is at the appropriate level for your plants. However, one pound of actual nitrogen per thousand square feet of bed area is usually adequate to support new growth in an established tree. Be aware that over fertilization can reduce cold hardiness.

Reply:Weather affects all living things. I also am in TEXAS and am having the same weather issues and drought (DFW area). My Myrtles are not blooming as long this year and I am watering. Check this website and it has some ideas too:
Good luck

Reply:Your crape myrtle is a tree-form crape that can reach 20'. These commonly try to revert to the original state. Just cut off the branch that's white %26amp; keep pruning to a minimum--any basal shoots can be trimmed while young, and any dead stuff is OK to cut--but other than occasional shaping your trees do not need pruning.
Also, your crape is well-established by now--stop watering it! These are very drought-hardy and need only 2 inches per month in the worst heat.
Reply:Don't have a clue, but something is going on. Saw a crepe myrtle the other day with both colors on it. It is usually red only (have admired it for 10 years). Other people have also written asking the same question about other types of flowers. I also live in Texas. Yes, it's hot. But is always hot here in summer. Sure hope someone has an answer. This is curious.
Reply:Maybe the ph of your soil has changed. We have some flowering shrubs that determine their color on the acidity of the soil. Maybe crepe myrtles do that too.
Reply:maybe the drought?
Reply:it's having an identity crisis. may it thought you needed a change. plants seem to adapt to their enviroment. that's probably what yours is doing. don't worry as long as it looks healthy. i think watering it is a good idea though. don't want to fry it in the heat. good luck with it.
Reply:I Believe it has to do with the acid and alkaline levels Iin the soil. Just like with Hydrangeas. Test your soil to see what levels you have. Your local nursery can help with a solution. In the mean time, enjoy the beatiful white blooms.
Reply:could be they get cross polinated too or nutrients missing give them some mirical grow and some water in the evenings i live in texas too and the heat is wilting everything, so i water my plants in the late evening
Reply:Probably has to do with the alkalinity of your soil.

Does anyone know of a website that I can look at all the different types of flowers?
I am planning a wedding in another state. Before I travel up there to check out florists I would like to have in mind a rough image of what I want, i.e. type and color of flowers. Is there a website that I can see all the different types of flowers and different colors they come in? I already know I want a hand tied round bouquet but the type is stumping me....I'm think very natural with white, ivory, and green.
