How come my candy strip rose bush doesn't get flowers anymore?

almost lost it a few winters ago but its back and good stems and leaves but never buds or flowers anymore. I have about six years of beautiful candy stripe red and white rose!

How come my candy strip rose bush doesn't get flowers anymore?
You say you almost lost it. It could be all sucker growth. Modern roses are grafted onto a different rose rootstock. Most are on Dr. Huey, an old climbing rose that only flowers in Spring(magenta small blooms). I know in eastern parts of the US roses are grafted onto multiflora rootstock. I'm not sure what that looks like.

Look really closely at the crown of the rose(that is where all the branches come together out of the ground. If they look like they are coming apart from each other and straight out of the ground, then you have suckers. You might have lost the Candy Stripe plant. I'm sorry. If you see some good canes coming together and others away, cut out the others. You might need to remove the whole plant.

Good luck. :-)
Reply:is it in the shade? if so, fewer blooms for you. you may have to transplant it.
Reply:I would try a fertilizer specfically for roses. You can also try mineral salts which is pure potassium. The potassium is a great fertilizer for roses.

Have you noticed any bugs or a fungus on your rose bushes.

Reply:Are you fertilizing?? Is something eating the buds?

If it is healthy it should flower - talk to someone at the local greenhouse and see what fertilizer they could recommend
Reply:Do your prune back your rose bush between november and January ? In spring I take my small spade or shovel and make a 5 to 7 inches deep and rotate this around the perimeter of your rose bush then get a good rose fertilizer in the gound where you dug out around your rose bush. Then I would put new top soil where you dug out the old top soil and also it make need pottasium ask your garden nursery about this. Also miracle grow through spring til fall is an excellent choice. I hope your Rose bush blooms again for you.
Reply:try using some miracle gro on it,you can buy it walmart..good luck
